Friday 6-8 PM, Saturday 9 AM-6 PM, Sunday 10 AM-12 PM
Max number of students: 8
Cost: $285 member / $315 non-member
Students bring rubber gloves and dust mask, all other supplies included
Students will make a planter or a small sculpture. No power tools are used, no prior sculpting experience required.
Day 1 (Fri) – 6-8 PM The class meets, discusses the technique, dry mixes sand and cement and prepares workstations.
Day 2 (Sat) – 9 AM-6 PM The sculpting day is the very active work day. Concrete is wet mixed and placed into cylinder forms to set sufficiently (approx. 3 hrs). Students view images and sketch designs. Lunchbreak. When mix is ready students carve until finished (5-6 hours).
Day 3 (Sun) – 10 AM-12 PM Students will remove work from workstations, trim foot, and clean up.
All tools and equipment provided by instructor. Optional set of 10 carving tools available for $25.
About Elder Jones-
Elder Jones has been wet carving concrete for forty years. His work consists of planters, steps, figurative sculpture, fountains and public art. He received national attention in the San Francisco Examiner, Southern Living Magazine and on HGTV. His work and technique are featured extensively in the two popular books by Sherri Warner Hunter.
