Westside Hike & Paddle 2026
About this Event
PLEASE READ: This is a family-friendly event for ages 13+. Participants paddling independently (i.e. in a single passenger kayak) must be 15 years or older. Youth ages 13–14 must paddle with a guardian, or guardian-approved adult, in a tandem kayak. Participants in single kayaks must be at least 15 years old.
About the Event
Join WAWA and friends for a fun day of hiking, paddling, and exploration in one of Georgia’s most beautiful state parks!
We’ll start the morning with a guided hike through Sweetwater Creek State Park, exploring the historic mill ruins as well as the local wildlife and geological features. Then, after a relaxing lakeside picnic, we’ll head to the water for a beginner-friendly kayaking tour across the lake reservoir. No experience necessary, and all gear provided.
The paddling portion is intentionally beginner-friendly, and includes on-land instruction before entering the water. Participants will learn foundational paddling techniques, safety principles, and how to navigate lake/flatwater environments. The goal is not just to paddle, but to build confidence, awareness, and comfort in outdoor water recreation.
