Join the Sharon Historical Society for an exclusive Westinghouse Historical Tour. The demand for this event has been so great that we have decided to bring it back again this year! Step back in time and explore the fascinating history of a former Westinghouse Electric plant that played a pivotal role during World War II. During this open-house-style historical tour, you’ll discover how this facility, once a hub of cutting-edge innovation, contributed significantly to the war effort through the production of advanced torpedoes. For decades, the plant made electric transformers, and served as a key part of the Shenango Valley’s industrial might. As you walk through its storied halls, you’ll hear about the workers who toiled here, the machinery that powered the war, and the critical role Westinghouse played in shaping naval combat technology. From the manufacturing process of torpedoes that changed the course of battles to the legacy of wartime innovation, this tour will allow attendees to reminisce about family-ties to the plant, offering a compelling glimpse into both the ingenuity and challenges of production from 1922 through 1985. Whether you're a history buff, an avid photographer or urban explorer, or simply curious about the past, this tour is a must-see for anyone interested in the intersection of technology, industry, and global conflict.
This self-guided tour will involve walking, wearing appropriate shoes (slip resistant encouraged) is a must. Be aware that participants will be on their feet for the entire event. These tours require a $10 ticket at the door, or can be purchased ahead of time on our website.
Our History Walks booklet, which covers the history of Westinghouse and the plant, will be on sale for $10. Other Historical Society publications and limited edition Westinghouse t-shirts will be for sale!
This event will run like an open house, from 1:00 pm til 4:00 pm, beginning The Landing’s new lobby, 469 North Sharpsville Avenue, Sharon, PA 16146 on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 1:00 pm and will run until 4:00 pm.
