About this Event

Location:

This indoor workshop will be held at The New Dawn Foundation, located in “The White House,” which is also known as "The Oaks." Built in 1900, it served as a school for girls before being privately purchased in 1919 by Charles and Magdalene Klingenstein. The historic estate house is located on the exclusive waterfront peninsula of Davenport Neck in New Rochelle, NY. Today this is a beautiful haven in Westchester County overlooking Long Island Sound.

For this workshop an extra $7.00 is included in the ticket price and will be donated to The New Dawn Foundation for allowing us to use the space.

Please see below for directions to The New Dawn Foundation.

Workshop Description:

Have you ever wanted to draw a character in your own unique style? The purpose of this workshop is to teach how to draw people by creating layers, using both wet and dry media. She will demonstrate how to employ different materials to create patterns before you begin to draw your character. The patterns will be used for the background, clothing and accessories of the character. You will learn how to draw people from simple shapes and be able to add elements that will add your own style of character design. Reference photos of characters will be provided, but you may also wish to bring your own to add to your creativity. As a fun treat, the last part of the workshop will show how to add collage work to your character.

Suggested Supply List: It's a big list, but the Instructor will be bringing her supplies to share, so bring what you have, no need to purchase anything.

  • Acrylic gouache: 6-10 colors including white, light Apricot (good for the skin, will bring a big tube for the day)
  • Watercolor in a pan.

  • 6-12 Color pencils including Brown, Light Pink, Indigo, White, Teal, Navy.

About the instructor:

To see more of the artist's work visit Min Lee's Instagram page.

Min Lee is currently working as a Graphic Designer in New York City and enjoys being a member of NYC Urban Sketchers. She graduated with a BFA in Communication Art at SAIC (School of Art Institute of Chicago). During the pandemic, while experimenting with her new iPad she discovered her love of illustrations. This led to her creating illustrations in both digital and traditional media.

NOTE: The New Dawn Foundation is easy to get to but you could miss it as the entrance is small. Most directions will tell you to go to Pelham Road. If you come to Pelham Road from North Ave., make a right onto Pelham Road, then make a left at Church Street (Trinity Elementary School is on the corner). Drive down to light and make a right onto Davenport Ave. Take this road down past the beach and catering halls. After the Greentree Club, you will see a VERY SMALL entrance on the left. (There is a boat yard on the right). It will say New Dawn Foundation and also "The Oaks" which was the former name of the estate. Drive slowly down the very curved and narrow road. There will be a fork. Go to the left where there is a small white mansion.
