WEST CEMETERY CLEANUP & RESTORATION WEEKEND
We’re excited to announce the Silent Grounds Collective West Cemetery Restoration Project Cleanup Weekend in Meriden, Connecticut.
 Saturday, October 24 & Sunday, October 25, 2026
 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
 West Cemetery — Meriden, Connecticut
This will be one of the first major hands-on steps in our effort to restore and preserve this historic cemetery.
Volunteers will be helping us with:
• Clearing weeds, brush and overgrown plots
• Removing garbage, fallen branches and other debris
• Edging and clearing the historic interior cemetery roads
• Uncovering areas around buried and sunken markers
• Identifying damaged stones and areas requiring immediate attention
• Documenting conditions for future restoration work
• Preparing sections of the cemetery for the next phases of preservation
No experience is necessary. If you care about local history, historic cemeteries, preservation, or simply want to spend a weekend doing something meaningful for the community, we’d like to have you with us.
West Cemetery has survived generations, but years of deterioration and limited maintenance have taken their toll. This cleanup is about more than cutting weeds and removing debris. It is the beginning of bringing a historic place back from neglect and ensuring the people buried there are not forgotten.
Silent Grounds Collective is a Connecticut nonprofit organization and federally recognized 501(c)(3) dedicated to preserving historic cemeteries, forgotten places and the stories connected to them.
Save the dates: October 24–25.
More information about volunteer registration, parking, what to bring and donated supplies will be posted as we get closer to the event.
