About this Event
This session is being delivered by Jenny Rose Smith in collaboration with the Money Guiders Wales Network.
Weds 27th Nov 9am - 10am - Positive Psychology for Wellbeing
In this session we will explore:
- The importance of counterbalancing our innate human negativity bias that takes us into worry and anxiety
- The power of gratitude and appreciation
- Moving towards a glass half full approach
- Simple practices that support us to have a balanced and healthy perspective
Self care and wellbeing are buzz words in todays’ world, but what do they actually mean in practice for each of us?
- What gets in the way of us doing things and taking action that we know is good for us?
- Is it possible to take micro acts of self care that make a difference in moments of stress and overwhelm in work?
- Which practices are most effective in which scenarios?
This six-part weekly series of wellbeing sessions for money guidance practitioners will walk you through a step by step overview of the relationship between stress and self care. We will then explore in more depth the findings and application of specific approaches within stress management.
The workshops will be experiential, combining theory and practice on what works to help manage stress and strain in our roles. We will share some simple theories, explore our own experiences through discussion, journaling and small group practices and try out micro stress management practices designed to support us at work.
Anyone who has a money guidance element to their role is welcome to attend. You can book on to single events or come to as many as feel relevant and helpful to you.
How the sessions will work:
Each hour-long online session is a stand alone. You can come to as many or as few as will benefit you. They will be delivered in a friendly, relaxed and informal style, and will include talking and listening, journaling, and trying out practical tips and tools for wellbeing. All of them will facilitate conversations about the joys and challenges of money guidance work, and each session will focus on a specific element of wellbeing.

Why it makes sense to give time off for Wellbeing Workshops to staff
In 2023 in the UK, on average staff took 20 days off because of stress and anxiety. In total over 17 million days were taken off for stress, depression and anxiety in the UK workforce and has been estimated to cost employers over £50 billion. Conversely, investing in staff wellbeing has been shown not only to yield financial returns, but also to boost individual and team morale. ‘Investing in the mental health and wellbeing of employees not only benefits employees, it can also yield positive financial returns for employers and provide wider societal benefits’. Jackie Henry Managing People, Partner and Purpose UK Delloite. Statistics - Working days lost in Great Britain (hse.gov.uk).
This session will be delivered in English and we are limited to a maximum of 18 guests, so please book at your earliest convenience to avoid disappointment.

The Money Guiders Programme
Money Guiders is provided by the Money and Pensions Service. It is a programme which seeks to help money guidance practitioners improve their knowledge, skills and confidence. Everything that the Money Guiders programme offers centres around the Money Guidance Competency Framework - it's there to help you better understand the full breadth and depth of money related issues that fall outside of the regulated financial advice service sector - the things you talk to your customers about.
Before attending the session, you could:
- Try out our money guidance confidence checker, to find out how you feel about the conversations you have with customers about money
- Spend some time considering the challenges you face in your work, specifically when you provide help and guidance to your clients or service users around money issues.
- Consider how you spot potential problems, how you can start conversations about money in a sensitive way and at an appropriate time?
- Think about how you can maintain good boundaries in your role as a money guidance practitioner within your main area of work?
