Helping when it hurts: Coping with a loved ones addictionAbout this Event
Almost all of us knows someone who struggles with a chemical or soft addiction (gambling, food, sex/love, internet, etc.) Yet it is very hard to know how to respond, let alone help, and keep the relationship intact. We want to be constructive yet we can swing from frustration to rescuing, from anger and blaming to guilt/ shame. Ken will address ways we can healthily respond, taking into account the person’s level of dependance and readiness for change.
The presenter tonite is Ken A. Burnstein, LCSW who has a private practice in Oak Park and provides individual, family, couples and group therapy. He has over 30 years of experience in community mental health, and private practice settings. Ken has a strong interest in addiction, and the recovery process of individuals and their families. He is a musician and an avid student of theology, mysticism, and depth psychology.
