About this Event

Begin the New Year with a serene and authentic cultural experience in the heart of Manhattan. Join us for a traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony held in a tatami-mat room at the elegant Prince Kitano Hotel, presented by the Omotesenke Domonkai Eastern Region USA Branch—an official branch of one of Japan’s most revered tea schools, with headquarters in Kyoto.

This ceremony is more than the simple act of sharing tea—it is a dialogue in hospitality between host and guest. The host prepares and serves a bowl of whisked matcha, and each guest receives it with mindfulness and gratitude, savoring a once-in-a-lifetime encounter.

Discover the essence of:

  • Ichigo ichie (一期一会) — “one time, one meeting,” the spirit of treasuring each moment as unique and unrepeatable.
  • Wakeiseijaku (和敬清寂) — harmony, respect, purity, and tranquility — the guiding principles of tea.

Following the refined tradition of the Omotesenke School, this ceremony embodies wabi — the quiet beauty found in simplicity and imperfection. Guests will experience the grace and subtle elegance that have defined this centuries-old art form.

Celebrate the start of the year with a bowl of tea, seasonal sweets, and the warmth of shared presence. Appreciate the elegance of handcrafted utensils, the calm atmosphere, and the fleeting beauty of the moment—all within the authentic Japanese setting of The Prince Kitano Hotel.

Notice of Limited-Edition Incense Container Purchase
Only 30 pieces available!

Please place your order from "Get Tickets - Add-on"!

This special incense container embodies the elegance of Japanese traditional craftsmanship. It is designed by the renowned Sotetsu Nakamura, one of the Senke Jisshoku (the ten designated artisans serving the Omotesenke tradition), and meticulously crafted at the esteemed Tetsu Kobo workshop.

Measuring approximately 5 cm (about 2 inches) on each side, this refined and elegant piece features an exquisite cherry blossom maki-e design on the lid, further enhanced with a sophisticated suri-urushi lacquer finish. Adding to its distinction, the reverse side of the lid bears the printed signature mark (kaō) of Yuyūsai, the 15th Grand Master of Omotesenke.

Created exclusively for this special occasion, this limited-edition incense container will be available for pickup at the reception desk of the tea gathering on February 8, 2026.

With only 30 pieces prepared, do not miss this rare opportunity to obtain a truly valuable keepsake that symbolizes the beauty and tradition cultivated by Japanese tea culture.
