Join us for a free talk by New York Times bestselling author Beth Macy on her new book, “Paper Girl: A Memoir of Home and Family in a Fractured America.” Macy takes readers back to her hometown of Urbana, Ohio — a place that shaped her childhood and her dreams — while exploring what happened as economic decline and division transformed it over the decades.
In “Paper Girl,” Macy reflects on growing up as a newspaper delivery girl in a community once held together by local news and opportunity. Today, she finds a town hardened by loss and asks what that means for families and the next generation. Macy brings her trademark honesty and insight to this deeply personal story of home, hope and change.
Macy is the author of three New York Times bestsellers, including “Dopesick,” which became a Peabody Award-winning Hulu series. She has won more than two dozen national journalism awards, including a Nieman Fellowship for Journalism at Harvard University, a Guggenheim Fellowship and a Los Angeles Times Book Prize for “Dopesick.”
The Carole Weinstein Author Series supports the literary arts by bringing both new and well-known authors to the Library of Virginia through online or in-person events. Free and open to the public, the series focuses on Virginia authors and Virginia subjects across all genres.
A book signing will follow the talk. This book will be available at the Virginia Shop.
