Every game needs push and pull. Learn to spot what sets your game in motion and what keeps it grounded, not spiraling.
About this Event

Acquire a new understanding of how every game needs a push and a pull in this two-hour workshop on balancing your scene's momentum! In improv, games can get bogged down or speed ahead too quickly. Learn to spot the "weight" that sets your game in motion and the "counterweight" that keeps it grounded, giving your scenes shape instead of letting them spiral. We'll explore how opposing forces create the tension that makes a game satisfying instead of chaotic, and how to find your role in that balance moment to moment. For more experienced improvisers, expand your concept of game and gain more consistent understanding of how to maintain energy with this workshop. Participants should have a lose understanding of game, which is equivalent to three levels of classes.

Daytime workshops at the Big Couch Binge offer something for improvisers of all levels, from those just starting out to seasoned performers looking to enrich their skills.

And, don't forget about our multi-workshop passes that provide a discount when taking more than one workshop on either day. See our full event page for workshop bundles.

About the Instructors - Lynae LeBlanc & Josh Krilov

Lynae Leblanc is a former child model for a portrait studio next to the Long John Silvers in the most downtrodden wing of the Tacoma Mall. She is also a Big Easy nominated actress that has performed, produced, taught and directed sketch and improvised comedy in the New Orleans area for over 20 years and was the founder/directer of The National Comedy Company from 2005-2011. Her original live cartoon sketch comedy show Drunktoons featured her subpar animation and voice work and was a hit at the two comedy/theater festivals that thought it was a good idea to let comedians get wasted on stage. Currently, she coaches Sorry We’re Singing improvised musicals at Big Couch where she performs regularly with Spicy Bits, Nerd Night, the Big Big Show, and co-directs sketch comedy.

Joshua Krilov is a seasoned comedy writer and performer who has written for television and appeared on improv stages across the country. He began performing improv in 2007 and teaching in 2009, first in Austin—where he served as Artistic Director of ColdTowne Theater—and later in Los Angeles, where he performed on improv and sketch teams at both UCB and iO West. He also trained at iO and the Annoyance Theater in Chicago.

As a TV writer, Joshua has worked in multiple Disney writers’ rooms, contributing jokes and pitches to over 100 episodes of scripted television. He also co-wrote and co-directed two short films that were official selections at South by Southwest, bridging his love of live comedy and scripted storytelling.

He’s also a certified life coach, challenge course instructor, and once coached an Oscar-winning actress in a couples workshop. Now based in New Orleans, Joshua continues performing, teaching, and trying to keep his daughters from drawing on the walls.
