About this Event

Weekend Intensive: The Whole Actor
with Joanne Wilson & Alan Powell

Course Overview

As an actor, do you find it difficult to let go of your character’s trauma or emotional journey? Or do you need tools to help take you deeper in character in a safe and caring manner?

Acting often asks us to enter intense emotional worlds—sometimes exploring grief, trauma, fear, anger, or deeply vulnerable experiences. This course offers practical techniques to help navigate that emotional journey while protecting mental and emotional well-being.

Beginning with script and character analysis, participants will explore grounding and mindfulness, emotional preparation, boundaries between actor and character, managing triggers, and healthy recovery after demanding scenes.

Learn to fully embody your role while tapping into your own inner resilience for a performance that is authentic and with a practice that has your emotional safety in mind!

Participants will gain:

  • Practical mindfulness tools for rehearsal and performance
  • Enhanced character analysis and scene study skills
  • Strategies for emotional regulation and resilience
  • Techniques for actor-character differentiation
  • Embodiment exercises that support character exploration
  • Sustainable approaches to emotionally demanding work

A supportive and challenging laboratory for actors seeking a trusting space for creative risk-taking, deepening craft, increased self-awareness, and more sustainable artistic practice.
