This holiday season, Weehawken Dance puts its own unexpected spin on a beloved classic with The Nutcracker, Remixed — a vibrant, imaginative production that brings together ballet, jazz, hip-hop, aerial arts and more for a fresh take on Tchaikovsky’s timeless holiday favorite.
The familiar magic of The Nutcracker is still here — the wonder, the adventure, the larger-than-life characters and the feeling that anything might happen when the clock strikes late at night — but this is definitely not your grandmother’s Nutcracker. Weehawken’s version turns up the energy, mixes genres and gives dancers and aerialists of all ages the opportunity to help tell the story in surprising and creative ways.
Featuring Weehawken’s youth dancers and aerialists, ages 3–18, The Nutcracker, Remixed is the culmination of the fall semester and one of the biggest productions of the year. From our youngest performers taking some of their very first steps on a major stage to advanced dancers and aerialists taking on featured roles, hundreds of students come together to create one enormous community production.
The result is a holiday show that feels both familiar and completely new — filled with beautiful dancing, big ensemble numbers, unexpected music and movement, aerial artistry, colorful characters and plenty of theatrical magic.
