Weds Wine Tasting! - Captivating Wines of Spain ~ Katie Fisher Presenting!
SPAIN has THE MOST land devoted to Vineyards in the World!! Yet their production usually falls in second or third place behind France & Italy! WHY? Almost 60% of their vineyards are required to be Dry Farmed, as in NO irrigation!
Dry farming forces vines to work hard to produce their fruit, generally creating smaller berries with less water and more concentrated flavors. So what others produce in volume the Spaniards focus on their terroir, their vines and as a result their wines!
Spain produces most of its wines from Native or Indigenous varietals, so it can take a little work to get used to the nomenclature, but it is well worth it as you will find out! Many of their Red wines are built around Tempranillo, Garnacha (Grenache) and Monastrell (Mouvedre) and for whites they are famous for Albarino, Verdejo and Arien and of course the Cava sparkling wines Trio of Macabeo, Xarel·lo & Parellada
Katie Fisher has done a deep dive into her new portfolio and will be delighted to introduce a selection of six wines while explaining why the Rain in Spain DOES NOT Fall in the Plains, but rather in the higher mountainous regions north & northwest in Spain! We'll be serving charcuterie family-style, with light snack too and as always great conversations! 7 - 9:00 PM $65 + tax pp
