2018 Domaine Hudelot-Noellat Chambolle Musigny $129.94
Domaine Hudelot-Noellat was established in 1962 by Alain Hudelot in Vougeot, although the family has roots in Burgundy dating back before the French Revolution. Alain married Odile Noëllat in the 1970's, which increased the family vineyard holdings as the Noëllat's also had a rich history in Burgundy. In 2008, Alain's grandson Charles van Canneyt took over, and shifted gears towards Henri Jayer's principles of 100% destemming, gentile extraction and moderate oak. This is from 11 parcels in Chambolle-Musigny, a region known for elegance and softness due to the high calcareous limestone content. It is aged in French oak with about 20% new.
2017 Olivier Bernstein Gevrey Chambertin Cazetiers $324
Olivier Bernstein is a boutique, micro-negociant winery that was started in 2007. He studied oenology in Beaune and worked under the famed winemaker Henri Jayer. At first, he purchased fruit like a true negociant, but as of 2012 he secured ownership of two parcels in Gevrey Chambertin, in Les Champoux (a premier cru) and Mazis-Chambertin (Grand Cru). This is their Cazetiers, one of the most prized premier crus in Gevrey Chambertin. Olivier Bernstein owns .5 hectares of the Premier Cru with the majority being vines about 80 years old. It is aged in 100% new French oak for 14-18 months with 100% destemmed grapes.
2013 Meo Camuzet Vosne Romanee les Chaumes $279.94
The Meo family has winegrowing roots dating back to the early 17th century. In the early1900's, Jean Meo's grandmother was the cousin of Etienne Camuzet, a winegrower and the Mayer of the Cote d'Or. When Etienne's family line died, the vineyards were left to Jean Meo, who had spent time with Etienne in the vineyards in Vosne Romanee. He relied on four tenant farmers, including the infamous Jean Tardy and Henri Jayer. In 1981, Meo became Meo Camuzet and the first vintage released was 1983. This is coming from the Les Chaumes Premier Cru in Vosne Romanee, which sits sandwiched between Aux Malconsorts and Clos de Reas. Meo Camuzet typically destems the grapes and ages in French oak between 50-70% new.
2011 Domaine Taupenot-Merme Mazoyeres Chambertin $259.94
Domaine Taupenot Merme was established in 1963 with the marriage of Jean Taupenot and Denise Merme. Their son Romain joined in 1998, becoming the seventh generation of winegrowers in the family. They are located in Morey-Saint-Denis in the Côte de Nuits, and they own 13 hectares of vineyards across 19 different appellations. They describe themselves as a richer style winery, following the winemaking techniques of Henri Jayer of de-stemming and cold soaking the grapes. Romain claims they want to express site over stems. The wine is aged for 15-18 months in French oak with 20-50% new.
