Pierre Girardin
The Girardin family is iconic in Burgundy, and Pierre Girardin represents the 13th generation of winemakers. He trained under his father, Vincent Girardin, who retained 4.5 hectares of top vineyard parcels to pass on to Pierre when he sold his domaine in 2011. Pierre released his first vintage in 2017 and has quickly emerged as one of Burgundy’s most compelling young talents.
Based in Meursault, Pierre is known for his precision-driven approach and thoughtful use of oak. He commissioned custom 456-liter barrels, larger than standard barriques, specifically to reduce the influence of new wood and emphasize purity and site expression.
In 2022, Pierre expanded his work into the Jura to explore new terroirs. Drawn by Jura’s proximity to Burgundy and its shared limestone-rich soils, he sought to apply his Burgundian techniques to Savagnin and Chardonnay. The goal was to create aromatic, site-driven wines that offer a distinct expression separate from his Burgundian portfolio.
2023 Pierre Girardin La Petite Montagne $79.94
This wine is made from 100 percent Chardonnay sourced from a single 0.6-hectare parcel in Jura at 450 meters elevation. The vines are 80 years old, with approximately 40 percent ungrafted. The terroir is often described as “Puligny-like.” The wine is fermented and aged in 600-liter barrels, with 50 percent new oak.
2023 Pierre Girardin Côtes du Jura Le Noyer Savagnin $97.94
This bottling is made from 100 percent Savagnin grown in a single 0.8-hectare enclosed vineyard at 470 meters elevation. The vines are 60 years old, planted on limestone-rich soils with clay, often described as “Meursault-like” in character. The wine is fermented and aged in 600-liter barrels, with 50 percent new oak.
2023 Pierre Girardin Puligny-Montrachet $184.94
This Chardonnay is sourced from two Puligny-Montrachet lieux-dits, Les Charmes and Les Corvées des Vignes. Fermentation and aging take place in 456-liter barrels, with 50 percent new oak, for 12 months, followed by an additional seven months in stainless steel to refine balance and precision.
2023 Pierre Girardin Échezeaux Grand Cru $615
This Pinot Noir comes from two Échezeaux lieux-dits, Les Poulaillères and Les Treux. The grapes are fermented using 100 percent whole clusters and aged in barrel with 100 percent new oak for eight months, followed by two months in stainless steel prior to bottling.
