Shannon Family of Wines is a prominent winery and ranch based in Lake County, California, founded in 1996 by Clay Shannon. The operation has grown from an initial 80-acre plot to over 2,000 acres of high-elevation mountain property, with roughly half dedicated to vineyards.

Establishment: Clay Shannon, who grew up on a farm in Sonoma County and worked as a vineyard manager for Sutter Home Winery, founded the winery to prove that high-quality, ultra-premium grapes could be grown in the rugged terrain of Lake County.

Expansion: The company has acquired several notable properties, including Steele Wines (founded by Jed Steele) in 2020 and the Giannecchini Vineyard in Mendocino County.

Why Lake County? - California's Secret Wine Garden! High-elevation wine region in California's North Coast, known for its volcanic soils, the purest air in the state, and its location around Clear Lake - the oldest freshwater lake in North America. Not as well known as not as accessible, but well worth a visit!
