Donnafugata is a family-owned Sicilian winery renowned for revolutionizing the global perception of Sicilian wine by shifting from bulk production to high-quality, sustainable "tailor-made" wines. Established in 1983, they are now led by their 5th Generation, over this time they have grown to 1,000 acres, grow 19 different varietals from indigenous local grapes from bushy vines to traditional classics that can be brought together to round out structure, flavors or complexity.
Jason Hisaw: Advanced Sommelier, works with Michael Mondavi's Folio Wines - that represents family wineries around the world that are as intense about their wine, the community and the vineyards, as the Mondavis were trained to be, by their famous Dad, Robert. Donnafugata is without a doubt one of the most colorful and artistic, both in their art and their wines.
Sicily: Donnafugata's vineyards are across Sicily from the mineral rich ashen slopes of Mt Etna among the most active volcanos in the world! .. to coastal highlands catching marine notes. A year around Mediterranean climate with daily sun, and limited rain, eliminating many vine attacking disease. The diurnal spread, the difference between daytime & nighttime temperatures increase flavor and reduce sugars in grapes, and then Micro climates around the island lend well to diverse range of varietals.
So much packed into 10,000 sq miles (size of Sicily, for reference Texas is about 280K sq miles) and it shows in their wines. Jason will be presenting Six wines, and we'll be serving charcuterie family-style with light snack and always great conversations! 7 - 9:00 PM $65 + tax pp
