Unleash your imagination and join us for the City of West Columbia’s 6th Annual Kinetic Derby Day featuring iMAGINE! This year’s theme, Fantasy Worlds, invites you to explore iconic realms inspired by stories like Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings or dream up your own magical world filled with dragons, castles, and flying cars.
Event Highlights:
Kinetic Derby Day is a one-of-a-kind celebration of creativity, competition, and family fun. Watch as teams race their uniquely designed vehicles and sculptures in an unforgettable showcase of innovation and artistry.
• Kinetic Sculpture Parade: Kick off the day at 11:00 AM with a colorful parade of fantastical, handcrafted creations.
• Soapbox Racing: From 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM, thrill to side-by-side racing with an exciting new format:
o Art Cars Division: Custom-built vehicles showcasing imaginative designs.
o Kit Cars Division: Personalized cars built on pre-made frames.
o Age groups in both divisions include 8–12, 13–17, and adults.
Family-Friendly Fun:
The excitement doesn’t stop at the races! Enjoy a wide range of activities designed to inspire, entertain, and engage visitors of all ages:
• Chalk Art & Electric Cars: Explore creative and interactive displays at the base of the hill.
• iMAGINE STEAM Festival: Dive into hands-on science, technology, engineering, arts, and math activities on State Street.
• Kids’ Zone: This area includes mini soapbox racing hosted by the Boys and Girls Club, perfect for little racers.
• Meeting Street Artisan Market: Discover local crafts and goods from area artisans in the Interactive Art Park.
• Food Truck Rally & Giant Slide: Enjoy delicious eats and outdoor fun at the corner of Meeting and State Streets.
