Join us for this free and engaging session exploring the history of basket making and chair caning. These artisanal skills were not merely functional; they embodied the resourcefulness and creativity of early American settlers. Attendees will gain insight into the techniques that have been passed down through generations, understanding how these crafts played a crucial role in sustaining communities and preserving cultural heritage. Join us as we celebrate the artistry and significance of these enduring traditions that shaped colonial life.
Following the session, participants can join a free basket making workshop. All materials will be provided, making it a perfect opportunity to express your creativity.
Anthony Jones is an Historic Interpreter at the High Point Museum, in addition to being an Instructor of History at High Point University and Adjunct Instructor at Alamance Community College. His work at the museum over the past 14 years includes learning and demonstrating various historical skills, such as: chair caning, basket weaving, cloth weaving and hide tanning.
This program is sponsored by the NC American250 grants program.
Join us in person at the Patterson Auditorium located on the Main Campus at Alamance Community College or via Presentation Zoom Link
