Creating a beautiful, impressionistic silk scarf is easy and fun using textile paints and simple tools. Mary will demonstrate a variety of painting techniques by working directly on a silk scarf blank, showing how to achieve stunning color effects and fluid designs. Participants will then experiment with these techniques to create their own unique scarf. Once dry, the colors are permanently set using an ordinary household iron, making your wearable artwork ready to enjoy.
Originally from Detroit, Mary Kaiser has lived and worked in Birmingham, Alabama for the past thirty years. A multimedia textile artist, she creates richly layered work using appliqué, paint, and stitching, and also explores book arts, natural dyeing, and printmaking. Mary is a member of Paperworkers Local, and her work is available for purchase at Four Corners Gallery in Hoover. You can see more of her work on Instagram at @mediumandcarpenter.
