Ageing is something we all experience, yet many of us have been shaped by negative messages about growing older. Join acclaimed author Carol Lefevre for a thought-provoking and inspiring talk exploring what it means to age well in a culture that often celebrates youth above all else.
Drawing on her new memoir Bloomer: Embracing a Late Life Flourishing (Affirm Press, 2025), Carol shares reflections from her seventieth year and the stories of older Australians she interviewed while writing the book. Together, we'll explore how we can challenge the narrative of ageing as decline and embrace the opportunities, wisdom and growth that later life can bring.
Audience members will be invited to share their own thoughts and experiences of ageing, either through discussion or anonymous written reflections.

Carol Lefevre is an award-winning author, journalist and Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Adelaide. She has published nine books, along with short fiction, essays and journalism. Her latest memoir, Bloomer, examines the challenges and possibilities of ageing in Australia's youth-focused culture.
