WE MET AT GRAMPS

Nine years ago, Steve and Alix had their first date at Gramps.

Gramps is also where Steve first told Alix, “I love you.” (She responded: “Thank you.”)

He succeeded in winning her heart, and in 2023, they got married. The venue for their wedding welcome party … you guessed it. Gramps!

Over 13 years, Gramps has become a vital community gathering space, a live music institution, an affordable local hangout, a haven for queer folks, a launchpad for artists, an undefeated pick for date-night, karaoke, pizza …

No wonder Gramps has been the backdrop for meet cutes, first dates, “I love yous” and wedding parties.

Step up to the microphone and tell your Gramps story — in five minutes or less — during this epic storytelling event with We Met in Miami. Mere weeks before this beloved institution closes our doors, come together to connect, share, listen and remember the good times.

You could even meet your boo or bestie! (We’ve got more meet cutes and first dates in us!)

At We Met in Miami events, we wear wristbands that show others what we’re looking for (choose one, two or all three):

🎤SIGN UP HERE TO TELL YOUR STORY. Reserve your five-minute speaking slot here. Check begins at 7 p.m. When you arrive at the event, tell the volunteers at the check-in table that you are signed up as a storyteller. Speaking slots will begin promptly at 8 p.m. Storytellers who do not check in by 7:45 p.m. may be skipped. If your plans change and you’re no longer able to attend, email [email protected] to be taken off the list.

Parking

PayByPhone street parking is available throughout Wynwood. Gramps is also accessible by public transportation.

Here’s what to expect:

7 p.m. Arrival. Check in, get your wristbands and name tags. Sign up for a speaking slot. Grab a drink or a slice and start mingling.

7:45 p.m. Opening. We’ll start with a few introductions and an opening icebreaker.

8 p.m. Gramps story slam. You’ll share your stories of meet cutes, first dates and special moments at Gramps — in five minutes or less!

9 p.m. Group photo and mingle. Let’s capture the special moment — and then keep the conversation going.

10 p.m. Event end time. Feel free to stay and continue reveling in nostalgia. Meet someone cool? Drop a Connection Card in the Matchbox, and if you match, we’ll reconnect you after the event. Yet another Gramps meet cute!
