Közös kiállítás az elvágyódásról, a valóság és az azt pótoló alkotások viszonyáról, az emlékezet eróziójáról. Mézes Tünde és Carlos Vergara munkáinak vezérmotívuma a fa, amely elképzelt tájaik elemi részeként a jelenből kiindulva szakad el a közvetlen tapasztalattól.

Nem látványos lánggal és füsttel, csak szép lassan. Fakulunk, korhadunk. Égdegélünk.
Távoli időkbe vagy térbe vágyunk, és hiába van jelen minden, akkor sem érezzük teljesnek azt, ami adott. Valami nagyon hiányzik. Valami, amit elfelejtettünk, de az is lehet, hogy sosem volt valós. Elképzelt tájakkal, és ezzel a valami mással próbáljuk pótolni, elfedni csonka valóságunk hiányait, de így sem tudjuk megragadni a képet, a pillanatot, az érzést; érjünk el bármit, az rögtön a múlt részévé válik.
Mert emlékezetünk velünk kérgesedik, és ami beépül, az rögtön le is zárul. Mi nemcsak helyettesítjük a valót, mi rögtön a helyébe lépünk, mert minél mélyebbre kerül, annál lassabban kap majd az lángra.
(Hátralép, újra ember) Pont mint a fák, ahogy végignézek rajtuk a térben. Az egyik egy távoli kép, az eredeti jelenlétének csupán az érzete, egyszerre több és kevesebb annál. Ő az örök elvágyódás efemer jelenléte, aki saját bomlását archiválja. A másik fa inkább szerkezeti modell – családfa vagy ágrajz –, amely egy hierarchikus rendszert ír le. Hol átalakulófélben lévő, erodálódó emlék, nem stabil forma, hiába próbálom úgy keretezni. Hol pedig élőlényből éppen anyaggá váló elvont infrastruktúra, mely éppúgy lehet csatorna, mint médium. Fáinkban nem a forma közös, hanem hogy elszakadnak a közvetlen tapasztalattól, és láthatóvá teszik a hiányt.

This joint exhibition explores themes of escapism, the relationship between reality and its substitutes, and the erosion of memory. The central motif in the works of Tünde Mézes and Carlos Vergara is the tree. As an elemental component of their imagined landscapes, it breaks away from direct experience.

Not with spectacular flames and smoke, but slowly. We fade, we rot. We smolder.
We long for distant times or places, and even though everything is present, we still do not feel that what we have is complete. Something is sorely missing. Something we have forgotten, though it may never have been real. With imagined landscapes and this “something else,” we try to make up for and conceal the gaps in our incomplete reality, yet we still cannot grasp the image, the moment, the feeling; whatever we achieve immediately becomes part of the past.
Because our memory hardens with us, and whatever is embedded is immediately sealed off. We don’t just replace the real thing; we immediately take its place, because the deeper it goes, the slower it will catch fire.
(Steps back, human again) Just like the trees, as I look at them in the space. One is merely a distant image of its original presence, simultaneously more and less than that. It is the ephemeral manifestation of an eternal yearning, documenting its own decay. The other tree is more of a structural model — a family tree or a branch diagram — that describes a hierarchical system. They are in the process of transformation. Sometimes, as an eroding memory, which is an unstable form, no matter how I try to frame it. At other times, it is an abstract infrastructure that turns from a living being into matter, which could easily be either a channel or a medium. The one thing our trees have in common is not their form, but the fact that they break away from direct experience and make absence visible.
