Building Endurance for Liberation, Post-Election Edition
About this Event

No matter the outcome of the election, the fight for freedom will continue. As we regroup and continue our efforts to block fascism and build power locally, nationally and globally, we will need to fortify ourselves for ongoing struggle. How do we build endurance for liberation?

Join us as we explore the power of combining our historical wisdom with innovative thinking. Our collective revolutionary past offers invaluable lessons, while our shared visions of the future inspire us to explore unconventional approaches. Our future depends on our ability to rise to this challenge.

In this special post-election conversation, Autumn Brown of AORTA will host an intergenerational dialogue between two brilliant movement organizers and strategists, Ricardo Levins Morales and Arianna Genis.  We will offer an initial assessment of the post-election landscape, and discuss the unique challenges and opportunities opened up by the new political terrain.  In sharing stories with one another, in celebrating our victories and mourning our losses, we will find the threads of practice that lead to greater freedom, now and tomorrow.

Featuring:

Autumn Brown, Moderator

Autumn Brown is a mother, artist, and facilitator, whose organizing is rooted in anarchist and anti-capitalist freedom movements. She was a founding member of the Rock Dove Collective, a radical community health exchange active in New York City from 2006-2012, and she has spent over 20 years organizing for healing justice, facilitating movement strategy, and training organizers in consensus process, facilitation, and racial justice. Autumn is a 2020 Auburn Seminary Lives of Commitment Honoree, a speculative fiction and creative non-fiction writer, a musician, and co-host of the podcast How to Survive the End of the World. She lives on Dakota land in Minneapolis with her three children and beloved community.

Ricardo Levins Morales, Speaker

Ricardo Levins Morales is a boricua artist/organizer based in the ancient homeland of the Dakota people. He has been active in movements for racial, environmental and economic justice since his family arrived in Chicago, from Puerto Rico, in 1967. He uses his art to address the historic and ongoing realities of oppression and resistance. Like the other workers at RLM Art Studio, Ricardo is a member of the News and Communications Guild/CWA.

Arianna Genis, Speaker

Arianna Genis is a first-generation Chicana from Minnesota. She is the founder of The Movida Initiative, a platform building the power of Midwest Latinos to shape their future and democracy through innovative research, media, and community-centered initiatives that bridge the gap between them and the political and economic systems that have often excluded them. With over a decade of experience as a community organizer, she has successfully led efforts for change at organizations like TakeAction Minnesota and Mijente, including helping to secure paid sick leave in Minneapolis, leading campaigns that have elected progressive leaders of color, and playing a key role in boosting Latino voter turnout nationwide. Arianna recently completed an Organizer-in-Residence at Johns Hopkins University’s P3 Lab and is currently a Visionary Leader Fellow at the University of Minnesota’s Institute of Advanced Study.
