About this Event
Join us for this creative and wellbeing-focused event, delivered by the Wolverhampton & District Society of Architects (WDSA), part of RIBA West Midlands, in collaboration with artist and photographer Tom Hicks, as we explore the city through photography and shared reflection.
The Urban Photography and Wellbeing Project is a community-focused initiative designed to promote inclusivity, professional engagement, and mental wellbeing within the architectural community in Wolverhampton. It brings together RIBA members, non-members, students, and built environment professionals for a creative and reflective exploration of the city.
This is not a technical workshop. Instead, the focus is on observation, reflection, and creative response. Participants are encouraged to engage with the city using photography in whatever form suits them, with no prior experience required.
Wellbeing is central to the project. Architecture can be a demanding profession, and this initiative creates space for reflection, creativity, and peer connection. Through walking, observing and photographing, participants are encouraged to slow down and engage mindfully with their surroundings, while the social aspect helps strengthen local networks and reduce isolation.
Whether you are an experienced practitioner, student, or new to RIBA events, this offers an accessible and welcoming opportunity to engage with Wolverhampton’s built environment in a different and meaningful way.
