Seven months ago, Kenny Davis Jr. of Reno, Nev., captured the WBC U.S. Lightweight Championship at an Extreme Maximus Boxing event in Cedar Rapids.
It was the 14th straight win for Davis, who moved up to no.16 in the NABF rankings. On Oct. 4, Davis will return to Cedar Rapids and defend his title in a 10-round main event bout against Gavino Guaman of Minneapolis.
The Davis-Guaman bout tops an impressive card for another Extreme Maximus Boxing event, labeled "Battle For The Belts." In addition, Kahlil Smoot of Ocala, Fla., will go for his 7th straight victory when he defends his USA Mid-America Heavyweight title against Brian Houston of Omaha, Neb.
The event will take place at the Teamsters Union Hall, located at 5000 J Street SW in Cedar Rapids. Doors open at 4 p.m. with the first bout at 5 p.m. Tickets start at $45 and are available from participating fighters and online at Nitrotickets.com.
The event will be shown live on pay-per-view at BXNGtv.com.
Local fighters competing include: Zane Marks, Zach Mills, Demian Papagni and Ruben Garcia. Undefeated fighters on the card include Leo Medel, Justus Pomeroy, Sean Frank and Arath Luna.
In the kickboxing portion of the card, Gage Kilburn of Hannibal, Mo. will defend his EMB Lightweight title against Helio Ortiz of Tama. In a professional kickboxing match, Anthony Thoma of Cedar Rapids will face Orell Fisher of Chicago.
