Wayside Days: Community Day at the Art Preserve
Schedule
Sat Sep 20 2025 at 01:00 pm to 04:00 pm
UTC-05:00Location
Art Preserve of the John Michael Kohler Arts Center | Sheboygan, WI
Enjoy an afternoon exploring the Art Preserve, home of John Michael Kohler Arts Center’s internationally renowned collection of over thirty-five artist-built environments. The event includes hands-on art making, live music, and moments with guest artists. The Culinary Art Car will be there if you’d like to purchase food and have a picnic.
Join Indigenous educator Lucille Burr Grignon of Ancient Roots Homestead in the STUDIO tent in the upper meadow for an intentional seed bomb making workshop. This hands-on activity weaves together traditional knowledge and ecological care to create intentional seed bombs using native plant seeds while learning about their cultural and environmental significance. The intentional seed bombs can be taken home and planted to flourish in your yard or left at the Art Preserve to be dispersed in the future.
Fresh Meals on Wheels will also be in the STUDIO tent for activities like fresh fruit and vegetable stamping! Use colorful produce to make beautiful, nature-inspired lunch bags for meal recipients while learning about healthy, local foods. The Fresh Meals on Wheels building and gardens, located at 1004 South Taylor Drive, will also host an open house.
In the activities tent, artist Leo Aguilar will share traditional techniques used to process yucca plant fibers for cordage. Join us to learn more about the tradition and make your own cordage!
Join us at the fry bread demonstration to see this beloved Indigenous tradition come to life. Watch as dough transforms into golden, crispy bread, savor the delicious aromas, and hear the stories behind the culture and tradition.
This event is part of Wayside Days.
