Edward Wayne Burkhart, 80, passed away on April 12, 2026, leaving behind a life defined by love, ingenuity, and quiet dedication to the people and passions that meant the most to him.
Wayne was, above all, a devoted husband to his wife, Doris June, and a proud father to Benjamin Wayne and Stephanie. His family was the center of his world, and some of the happiest moments were the simplest time spent together, sharing stories, laughter, and the comfort of being surrounded by those he loved. He carried that same warmth into his role as a grandfather to Stephen, Samuel, Sarah, Matthew, and Chad, each of whom brought him immense pride and joy.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Doris June; his daughter, Stephanie; his cherished grandchildren; his siblings, Carol Arvin and Randy Romans. He was preceded in death by his son, Benjamin, whom he loved deeply; his sibling, Richard Romans; and his parents, Earl and Margarette Romans.
Wayne's life's work reflected both his intelligence and his desire to make a difference. As an engineer and VP of PGT Industries, he helped shape an industry and protect communities though his role in designing and creating the hurricane window-an innovation that stands as a lasting testament to his vision and care for others.
Yet, to those who knew him best, Wayne wasn't defined by titles or accomplishments, but by the way he lived his life. He had a lifelong passion for classic Corvettes, spending hours bringing them back to life with patience and precision. It wasn't just about the cars-it was about the craft, the challenge, and the joy of creating something lasting with his own hands. As a judge with the National Corvette Restorers Society, he traveled the country, sharing the passion and connecting with others who understood it.
Wayne will be remembered for his steady presence, his thoughtful nature, and the deep love he had for his family. His legacy lives on not only in the lives he helped protect, the cars he restored, or the work he accomplished-but in the memories he created, the values he passed on, and the love that will continue to surround his family.
