We are thrilled to welcome Sergio Andres Medina and Guillem Balagué who join us to discuss Sergio's fascinating book Spanish Liverpool - The Untold Story of How Rafa Benitez Conquered Europe and Revolutionised the English Game
Spanish Liverpool chronicles the six seasons that reshaped Liverpool under Rafael Benítez. Sergio Andrés Medina threads together voices from dressing rooms, backroom staff, directors, journalists and supporters to deliver a living oral history.
The story begins with Benítez's arrival from Valencia, follows his data-and-details ethos, and shows how set-pieces, compact blocks and intelligent pressing became Liverpool's identity long before they were mainstream in England.
The chapters revisit the Miracle of Istanbul which saw the club launch a comeback for the ages to champions of Europe in thrilling fashion in 2005 - an almost cinematic crescendo. He previously wrote a book about legendary Real Madrid star Raul, published to critical acclaim in Spain. He’s long been fascinated by Liverpool FC, as well as the city in general
Guillem Balagué is a prominent Spanish football journalist, author, and pundit widely recognised for his expertise in European and Spanish football. He rose to widespread prominence in the UK during his 20-year tenure with Sky Sports, where he was a central fixture on the popular show Revista de la Liga.
