Waterfowl ID at Nine Springs
About this Event
Welcome to the Madison chapter of the Feminist Bird Club! We are a bird club dedicated to promoting diversity in birding and providing a safe opportunity to connect with the natural world while fundraising to protect the rights of LGBTQIA+ folks, women, and people of color.
Weird Duck Time has arrived! Join us on Saturday, November 7 from 9-11am as we check the ponds of Nine Springs for newly arrived migrating waterfowl.
This is a great outing to get all your weird duck ID questions answered. We'll share strategies for IDing waterfowl from a distance with binoculars and will have scopes on hand to practice with. Dress in plenty of warm layers as we will be out in the open without any cover.
If you have a scope, feel free to bring it! We will have a few scopes available as well. We will provide waterfowl ID handouts as resources to those interested.

Everyone is welcome at our events, no birding experience required! Our events are family friendly and open to all who respect our mission. Whether you’re brand new to birding or have been birding for decades, we’d love to welcome you to our community.
Please RSVP so we can make sure our trip leaders can accommodate everyone.
Directions and Parking: We’ll meet at the parking lot at 1949 Moorland Rd. Click here for a pin. It is a medium-sized paved parking lot. It has accessible parking and a restroom. For those interested in biking, this location is directly off the Capital City State Trail bike path.
Accessibility information: This location is potentially wheelchair accessible. We will be walking a short stretch on a flat, paved bike path, then transitioning to flat, crushed gravel trails along the dikes that border the ponds. Please contact us (see email below) if you have questions about if the trail can accommodate your mobility device. We expect to cover roughly 1.5 miles during this event and will be moving slowly. There is a restroom at the parking area.
Binoculars are available upon request. You will have the option to indicate if you need a pair before you checkout.
In the event of inclement weather we will cancel and notify you via email.
