*The secret language of micro-expressions and how to translate them onto your canvas
*Technical approaches to capturing fleeting emotional moments
*How to identify and emphasize key features that drive emotional impact
*Methods for creating psychological depth in your portraits
You will work with three carefully selected reference subjects, each chosen to challenge and develop different aspects of your technique. Learn to paint in watercolor in a spontaneous style that involves minimal layering and the use of transparent colors. During this workshop, participants will focus on loosening up the portrait painting process and on learning strategies for creating a successful portrait. To focus on the painting process, participants will be working from partially pre-drawn portraits (furnished by the instructor on watercolor paper). Samples of paints that are highlighted in the workshop will be provided. This workshop will be a combination of demo and hands-on portrait work.
Cost: $160
About Pam Wenger: Art has always been a part of Pam Wenger's life. Some of her favorite childhood memories involve creative projects. Later, as an elementary school teacher, she found plenty of outlets for creativity. After retiring in 2012, she began to seriously explore painting. She chose watercolor, thinking it would be easier and less expensive than oils - both of which proved to be incorrect. She enjoys painting a wide range of subjects but is drawn to portraits and figurative work. She took art classes in college and studied further at her local art association. She has worked with portrait artist Ted Nuttall and attended sessions with the late Charles Reid-both of whom have deeply influenced her approach to painting. Portraits remain her true passion. She finds joy in trying to capture the essence of a person through expression, pose and composition. Visit her website at www.pamwenger.com
