This class will consist of learning the basic rules of portraiture and utilizing the Loomis method to draw a portrait. I will provide a demo of the instruction and then will draw a self portrait and focus on anatomy, values and composition.
The second class we will draw a frontal view of our model. The students are encouraged to bring a photo with good lighting with shadows apparent. For instance, the light source on the right of the subject that create shadows on the left. We will then paint the portrait in a monochromic style focusing on light, medium and dark values.
The third class I will provide a demo of drawing a subject and painting in color. The students will draw and paint a self portrait.
The fourth class we will create a small portrait on aquabord. The students can provide a photo or use one provided.
Basic drawing techniques will be covered to render portraits using the Loomis Method and a review of the creation of form and character using light and shadow. Prior drawing experience preferred. Students should bring 3 photos to work from with good light and shadow apparent. (For instance, a photo taken with the light source on top left of the subject creating shadows on the the right side of the face.)
