About this Event

Participants will get to take home their own watercolor kit.
What to expect?
1. Introduction to Materials (15-20 min)
2. Core Techniques & Exercises (45-60 min)
3. Simple Projects/Guided Practice (60-90 min)
4. Final Touches & Wrap Up (15 min)
I'm going for tropical summer vibes for this project, so I'm going to do a tropical moonlit ocean painting. I want to give attendees the option to either make it a moon or a sunset, but I will personally do a moon. I expect customers to start off with simple watercolor shapes and washes on the first day, and we're also going to experiment with salt on watercolor.
The key takeaways from any of the watercolor classes I’m offering should be mastering water control, embrace imperfections (watercolor is meant to be fluid; accept that the paint will move on its own) and layering! Layering is something that many beginners will have trouble with at first, as it requires time and patience. And of course, having fun
A Word From The Teacher
I am a multidisciplinary artist who creates paintings, illustrations, and mixed-media work rooted in community, storytelling, and conversation. I've exhibited paintings in Dallas, TX, Houston, TX, and New York City at the Glasshouse. I have over a decade of sharpening my drawing and painting skills, and I have two art degrees. I currently work as an art professor!
The biggest struggle I've encountered since going to art school at 18 years old has been overthinking the idea of doing art and embracing it as a lifestyle. You have these constant worries like finances, achieving a certain kind of skill level, learning how to be marketable, learning how to believe in yourself as an artist. However, going for it anyways and talking to more people has given me more confidence as a person and artist. Teaching has given me way more confidence as well, it has taught me to be more social and have more fun in life. I hope to help students overcome these problems by emphasizing the idea of community to them. Being in a close-knit community like my group of friends from college or work always gives me tons of inspiration and drive to keep moving forward. Surrounding yourself with like-minded individuals who help you grow is good for your mind, and for your soul.
