About this Event

The Water and Flood Awareness (AWR) class is designed for firefighters, law enforcement officers, and other first responders who may find themselves operating near floodwater, storm surge, canals, retention ponds, flooded roadways, or fast-moving water.

In coastal Florida, floodwater is not a once-in-a-career hazard; it is a predictable threat that comes with hurricanes, tropical storms, severe thunderstorms, and overwhelmed drainage systems. This course gives responders the awareness needed to recognize hidden dangers, understand how water behaves, identify unsafe conditions, and make smart decisions before a routine call turns into a responder rescue.

Every year, emergency vehicles are destroyed vehicles are destroyed, and first responders are placed in danger because floodwater is underestimated. Just a few inches of moving water can knock a responder down, and deeper water can move patrol vehicles, fire apparatus, and rescue units with ease. The AWR class is not just about water rescue; it is about survival, leadership, and preventing costly mistakes under pressure. Whether you wear a badge, bunker gear, or a duty belt, this training helps ensure you can protect the public without becoming the next victim.
