📣 Be sure to book onto our Exclusive Members’ Event - coming soon!📣'Watch and Ward in the Isle of Man' a talk by Andy Johnson, Manx National Heritage's Curator of Field Archaeology.
For hundreds of years before radar and telescopes, it was a legal requirement for Manxmen to keep an organised watch out to sea for signs of potential trouble. It was an onerous task, maintained both day and night by men whose first priority was farming and fishing, and yet time and again it enabled the population to protect itself and meet the threat of raids and invasions. In this illustrated talk, MNH archaeologist Andy Johnson will review what was known about watch-keeping and present new evidence for where the watch-sites were located and how the system developed through time.
The talk will be held at the Manx Museum, 10.30am on Thurs 18th December 2025. Tickets cost £10 per person plus optional donation to Friends of Manx National Heritage. To book: email [email protected] or call us on 07624 243806.
