About this Event
The Presidents Day holiday is Monday of this week, but the actual birthday of George Washington, namesake of The Evergreen State, is Feb. 22. In either case, both are fine enough excuses to taste some awesome wines. Washington’s premium wine industry began in the 1960s. Today, it is the nation's second largest wine producer (behind California). The majority of the state’s wine grapes are planted east of the Cascade Range in the Columbia Valley appellation, which encompasses the Yakima Valley and Walla Walla appellations. The climate and soils produce grapes with intense fruit flavors and high natural acidity. Washington's vineyards straddle the 46th and 47th parallels - approximately the same latitude as Bordeaux! We’ll check out the major wine regions and taste our way through the signature whites and reds.
