Washington County 250th Anniversary George Washington Statue Dedication

Join Washington County Government for the dedication and unveiling of the new George Washington statue on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at the Historic Andrew F. Wilkinson Courthouse, 95 W. Washington Street, Hagerstown.
As part of Washington County's 250th Anniversary celebration, this seven-foot bronze statue honors the county's namesake, General George Washington. Created by local sculptor Toby Mendez, the statue captures Washington's connection to the founding era and includes educational inscriptions highlighting his life, legacy, and contributions.
The statue serves as a lasting tribute to Washington County's unique place in history as the first county in the nation named in honor of George Washington. Designed to endure for generations, this new landmark provides a gathering space for residents and visitors to reflect on our shared history and celebrate the story of Washington County.
The community is invited to attend this historic dedication ceremony as we unveil a lasting symbol of our county's heritage and commemorate 250 years of Washington County history.
