The holy season of Lent begins on March 5th with our Ash Wednesday Worship Service at 7:00 PM. Please make it a priority to begin this Lenten Season as a faith family by attending this service, which features the imposition of ashes on our foreheads. A come-and-go imposition of ashes will be available that day from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM in our sanctuary for those that can't attend the evening service or for those that desire to receive the imposition of ashes earlier in the day. The theme for our Ash Wednesday Worship Service is
Wash Me & Cleanse Me.
The nursery will be available, yet children are invited to remain in this powerful and important worship service.
Lent is a season of forty days, not counting Sundays, which begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on the Saturday before Easter. The forty days represents the time Jesus spent in the wilderness after his baptism as he endured the temptation of Satan. This time prepared him to begin his ministry. Lent prepares us to celebrate Easter.
Ash Wednesday initiates a season of personal holiness and a renewed commitment to our common life together, with the intention of growing closer to God and treating other people the way Jesus would. As a way of doing this, people often commit to giving something up during Lent, with the intention of having more time, energy, or finances freed up to be used to bless other people and to focus on hearing from God.
A key passage that guides our lifestyle during Lent is from
Joel 2:12-13:
Yet even now, says the LORD, return to me with all your heart,
with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning;
rend your hearts and not your clothing.
Return to the LORD, your God,
for he is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love,
and relents from punishing.
