Since making her orchestral debut with the Toledo Symphony Orchestra at the age of 13, Holly Roadfeldt has continued to be an active solo pianist and chamber musician, performing standard and eclectic recital programs in the United States, Europe, and Asia. Roadfeldt’s mission is to inspire and advocate for piano music of the highest caliber and she regularly mixes newly composed music with established masterpieces.
Her program, “North American Narratives,” reflects the complexity and emotional depth of the American musical voice. It includes lyrical nocturnes by Samuel Barber and Mary Howe, the industrial momentum of Rzewski’s “Winnsboro Cotton Mill Blues,” and musical portraits from Anthony Joseph Lanman’s “Hommages”—including “Hommage à Eddie Van Halen.” The program also features Margaret Bonds’s “Troubled Water,” Bolcom’s “Serpent’s Kiss,” Earl Wild’s Gershwin transcriptions, and Billy Joel’s “Nocturne”—offering a broad, expressive journey through American soundscapes.
