It's warbler season and where better to see them up close and personal than at Red Oaks, one of the premier suburban spring birding hotspots in Oakland County. A green "refuge," this park boasts an impressive species record of 159 species seen in the park in May. The best part is, it's located at 13 and Dequindre in Madison Heights and the trails are paved, so the park is much more accessible to birders with physical disabilities. This county park is free to access thanks to the City of Madison Heights, however, park passes can be obtained at the nature center that will allow you entry to the rest of the County Park System. Plan to bring your binoculars, monocular, or camera as the warblers will be bouncing through the trees. Depending on the weather, bug spray is advised as this park can host many mosquitoes.
Carpool if possible as the parking lot is small and the park is popular. Trip size is limited, please contact the leader to sign up.
