Join Jim Quinn and Dianne McGrath from the Ballarat Chinese Community Committee on an informative walking tour of the Chinese section at Ballarat New Cemetery as part of this year’s Ballarat Harmony Fest.
Meet your guides inside the Norman Street gates at Ballarat New Cemetery to commence the tour.
The tour focuses on the unique Chinese characteristic of this section's design, and how it reflects a Chinese religious view of death in contrast to the cemetery’s dominant Christian perspective.
There will also be information shared about the significance of the position of the section, special plantings at the site, and other interesting cultural information.
Important information:
- The tour runs for 1.5 hours and encompasses some hilly and uneven terrain; wear good walking shoes and dress for the weather.
- Please be respectful of the cemetery space when undertaking the tour.
- Please note: This tour is not accessible for those with wheelchairs, walkers or prams.
