Walking Tour: Community and Culture on East 4th

Join us for a tour of the iconic block on East 4th between Bowery and 2nd Avenue! For generations, the Lower East Side has been home to a thriving arts scene, block after block of family-owned restaurants and eclectic shops, and a diverse community of residents committed to their neighborhood.

This block tells a story of triumphant struggle to preserve what really matters to us in an evolving city – from tenants organizing to stop a Robert Moses slum clearance plan to arts organizations buying their buildings for $1 each.

An interactive tour will bring us into conversation with organizers, small business owners, and artists to learn why this struggle matters – and how we can keep it going. Dress warmly; light refreshments provided!
