Walk the Line – Documentary Screening & Benefit for Chinese Migrant Workers
Saturday, December 20, 2025 | Doors 6:30 PM | Film 7 PM | Runtime: 71 min.
La Peña Cultural Center, 3105 Shattuck Ave, Berkeley, CA
Suggested Donation: $10 - $25 | Benefit for the Sinophone immigrant community in the Bay
Join us for an exciting event and fundraiser with Wúdi Xiongmao (Power Pandas), a newly formed organization working to develop solidarity among Sinophone immigrant workers in the Bay Area. We will be screening Walk the Line, a powerful documentary that tells the story of Chinese workers who fled China as a result of the Chinese government’s harsh Zero-COVID policies, economic downturn, and looming threats to human rights. The film is an on-the-ground, intercontinental chronicle of the treacherous journey these migrant workers endured to reach the United States, including traversing the area known as the Darién Gap.
After the film, there will be a panel discussion about the conditions that workers face in China that force them to leave in order to escape exploitation and repression. The panel will also discuss the plight of the workers who arrive in the US and the difficulties they endure as undocumented migrants.
Doors will open at 6:30 pm and the film will begin shortly thereafter. The panel will follow the film. In addition to the film and panel, several local artists will be tabling their artwork to raise funds for legal support and community organizing for the migrants.
Suggested donation of $10-25 (no one turned away for lack of funds). The funds will go towards providing support for the Sinophone immigrant community in the Bay.
