Walk, Shoot, Draw; A lunchtime workshop with artist Susan Olij
About this Event
Walk, Shoot, Draw; A lunchtime workshop with artist Susan Olij
This is a workshop about noticing. About what happens when we give our attention to what's here, and let it show us the city differently. Our skills or previous drawing experience is irrelevant.
Join artist Susan Olij for a fun, chill lunchtime workshop — the perfect break to spark our curiosity and see the familiar in a totally new light.
We start by walking around the neighbourhood, sit down for a nice lunch and photograph what catches our eye — textures, colours, signs, walls, light, shadows, the unexpected — all filtered through your phone camera.
We return to Overlap, and Susan Olij will give prompts on how we can draw conclusions from our own images using simple tools: black ink, white paper, and a dash of urban yellow to finish. Bold, playful, noticeably based on our own observation.
Susan will share how she uses this method to arrive at the paintings in her solo show.
Optional: after the workshop, join Susan for a short artist walkthrough at Dentalis — five minutes away — where her paintings are currently on show.
Art supplies included. Suitable for adults of all levels — no art experience needed. Just bring your camera and be open to new experiences.
