17th Annual Supplies for Homebound Seniors Walk-A-Thon 2024:Volunteer Montgomery and Christiansburg Parks & Recreation, are co-sponsoring a Walk-A-Thon on Sunday, September 29 from 2-4 pm.
How to participate:
- Anyone can register to walk. We will be walking on the track at the Christiansburg Recreation Center.
- You can walk whatever length of time or distance you wish. One lap around the track equals 1/8 mile.
- Come by or call the Volunteer Montgomery office to complete a registration form and sign a waiver. A minimum pre-registration of $15 is required for adults, $10 is required for children. You may also register at the event.
- Ask everyone you know (family, neighbors, church members, etc.) to sponsor you to walk. Participants are encouraged to form teams to help raise money and keep members walking while others take a break!
- Collect money as you go and turn it in on the day of the event.
- Please have your sponsor(s) make their checks out to Volunteer Montgomery. Sponsor sheets are available when your register.
- The money you collect will be used to purchase supplies for 245 homebound seniors and veterans, such as; toiletries, detergent, word search puzzles, etc. Volunteer Montgomery volunteers and local Police will distribute supplies to clients of the Montgomery County Homebound Meal Project, City of Radford Homebound Meal Project, Montgomery County Department of Social Services, and Virginia Veteran and Family Support Project.
- Monetary donations for those wishing to donate but not participate can be made at https://volunteermontgomery.betterworld.org/campaigns/17th-annual-walk-thon-sponsorshi, the Christiansburg Recreation Center, or the Volunteer Montgomery office.
- Rest stations, snacks, and water will be available.
- Have fun, enjoy the exercise, and support a worthy cause!
