Wales: 100 Records is the stunning new book from broadcaster and champion of Welsh music Huw Stephens. It presents the highlights of the careers of some of the most important recording artists that Wales has ever produced, with an article on each artist, accompanied by the record sleeve.Join Huw for a whistlestop tour through some of of Wales's most influential musicians as he chats with radio and tv presenter Bethan Elfyn. The book includes albums by Badfinger, Man, Shirley Bassey and Tom Jones (of course!) and more recent artists such as Adwaith, Gwenno and Mace the Great.
Huw Stephens said: “I have wanted to put this book together for a long time. It’s a 100 Records that tells us a lot about Wales, how every record is a product of its environment and what was going on in Wales at the time, with international influences of course. Each record brings something unique to the book, there’s music of all genres from trad and folk to rock and indie, techno and house, rap and reggae. I hope that people will be surprised and enjoy discovering these wonderful albums, from the 1960s right up to the present day.”
“Wales has produced so may incredible artists and records, but it was important for me to include records sung in both Welsh and English. I should say it’s by no means a definitive list of albums from Wales. Instead, it’s a list of brilliant records from every corner of Wales, spanning the decades and genres!”
HUW STEPHENS broadcasts on BBC Radio 6 Music on his daily drivetime show, guest presents on BBC Radio 4's Saturday Live and hosts weekly shows in both English and Welsh on BBC Radio Wales and Cymru. Starting his career on BBC Radio 1, he co-founded the Welsh Music Prize and Cardiff's Swn Festival, and is a regular on the BBC's coverage of Glastonbury Festival.
