About this Event

Wake County at War: Wake County Veterans in Twentieth-Century Conflicts explores the experiences of local veterans through the lens of the Military Collection at the State Archives of North Carolina. This program highlights the service of men and women from Wake County who served in major conflicts of the 20th century, from World War I to the Gulf War. Drawing from original letters, photographs, and oral histories of Wake County servicemembers, the presentation offers an intimate look at how global events shaped the lives of Wake County residents.

Ashley Latta Post is a historian and archivist with a passion for preserving and sharing American history. Born and raised in Charlotte, NC, Ashley earned a B.A. in History and Spanish from the University of South Carolina and an M.A. in Public History from American University. With a background in both museum work and education, she has contributed to institutions such as the National Museum of American History and the Cherokee National History Museum. After teaching high school history for two years, Ashley now serves as the Military Collections Archivist at the State Archives of North Carolina where she manages and preserves the state’s military records for future generations.
