This tour will take you on a journey back in time to Raleigh’s most interesting true crime stories and other quirky tales!
About this Event

This tour is pay-what-you-want ! If you enjoy the tour, please compensate your guide appropriately! CASH ONLY please! Usually, the guide receives $15 to $20 per adult, but you are free to give more or less than that, depending on how you feel about your tour. As you can imagine, the tour guide has to work hard to earn your appreciation!

Tours have always been pay-what-you-want, but advance registration is now REQUIRED. I need to monitor the number of people on the tour, and I also need to be able to communicate with you if the tour needs to be cancelled due to the weather or low signups.

THIS TOUR REQUIRES A MINIMUM NUMBER OF SIGNUPS IN ORDER TO RUN! If the minimum number is not reached, the tour will be cancelled. You will receive either a tour confirmation email with some last minute details or a cancellation email through Eventbrite no later than 24 hours prior to the scheduled time of the tour. Please check your email the day before the tour and please read any email that you receive about the tour through Eventbrite!

Raleigh has experienced its share of M**der, mayhem, and other strange happenings throughout the years! This tour will take you on a journey back in time to Raleigh’s most interesting true crime stories and other quirky tales. Don’t miss out on these weird, offbeat, and entertaining historical stories!

The stories on the True Crime tour are historical stories that involve crimes, so they are meant to be unique and entertaining stories rather than stories involving crime solving, crime scene investigation, or forensic science.

PLEASE NOTE: We will start outside the NC Court of Appeals Building, which is located at 1 W. Morgan St. Specifically, we will start at the corner of Fayetteville and Morgan Sts., across the street from the State Capitol Building. The tour route is less than 1 mile long, and the end point of the tour is approximately half a block away from the starting point.

Due to the adult nature of several of the stories and the gory nature of one of the stories, this tour is NOT recommended for children under 14 years old.

The True Crime and Curious Tales Tours are approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes long, but may be slightly longer depending on the size and speed of the group. I have budgeted 1 hour and 30 minutes for the tour to be on the safe side. There will not be any restroom breaks or stops for food/drinks.

All street parking in Raleigh is free on Saturdays. There is also a surface parking lot for the Natural Science and History museums that is about 1.5 blocks away from the tour starting point and is also very close to the tour end point. This parking lot has 2 entrances, one off of Jones Street and one off of Edenton Street. You will be closer to the starting point if you park on the south side of the parking lot, so as close to Edenton St. as possible. Parking in this lot is free on Saturdays.

This tour leaves the starting point quickly! If you are late, you can catch up with us by heading south down Fayetteville St., where several stories will be presented. We will eventually turn west onto Martin St. and then north onto Salisbury St., but if you will most likely find the group on Fayetteville St.

This tour will take place mainly within the downtown Sip n' Stroll district! The very end of the tour is outside of the district, but if you are able to finish your drink within 1 hour of the tour starting time, you will be fine! But you do not need to buy a drink to participate in the tour -- this is not a pub crawl!! While we will not be making any specific stops for drinks, please feel free to arrive early and purchase a drink at a participating establishment before the tour starts. The Raleigh Times and Anchor Bar are two bars that are relatively close to the starting point. For a list of all the establishments that participate in the Sip n' Stroll program, please click HERE.

PLEASE NOTE: You are not permitted to bring your own alcohol to this event! All alcoholic beverages must be purchased from a participating establishment and must be in a specific Sip n' Stroll plastic cup with a date & timestamp, so you also cannot use a koozie with your beverage because the details on the cup need to be visible throughout the tour.

Once the tour starts, we will not be stopping for any drinks along the route, so please make sure that you have a beverage at the start of the tour if you want one!
