The original musical comedy, WAITING FOR YOU, is set in Heaven. No men allowed! So, when two men arrive, all Hell breaks loose.The sunny-side-up romp through the Afterlife tells the story of Bobby and Susie, married just two years before her death. Susie eagerly anticipates her heavenly reward for a life well-lived. But after passing through the Terminal of Sublime Awesomeness, she discovers a far goofier version of Paradise than anyone could ever imagine.
Join us for the premiere of WAITING FOR YOU, where we meet Susie; the saints Mattie and Joanie; Dr. Jessie Christie; Saint Pennie; Bobby’s lecherous dad, Robby; and Mistie Buffie, Robby’s cartoon trophy wife and a veterinarian – indicted but never convicted for accidentally killing her patients. And they all discover Heaven’s not all it’s cracked up to be.
Dr. S. David Berry is a composer and professor of composition at Converse University, where he has produced two operas and teaches a wildly popular course about The Beatles. John Jeter, best known as co-owner of the iconic Handlebar music venue in Greenville, is a published author who teaches at Converse and USC Upstate. Director Michelle Newman has participated in nearly 200 theatre productions in the Upstate and Western North Carolina. The premiere features Kimilee Bryant, star of The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway.
WAITING FOR YOU marks a rare presentation of an Upstate, South Carolina, born-and-raised musical.
