Waiting as interstice
About this Event
Waiting as Interstice
Venue: Garage at Barnes Building
Opening time: 27/07–28/07 (12–6pm)
This is an exhibition about how waiting becomes a catalyst for encounters between strangers. By presenting new media art works that engage with the concept of waiting, along with waiting segments and spaces co-designed by the artist and curator, it transforms the often overlooked "waiting gap" into the "social interstice" referred to in relational aesthetics — a space where dialogue, co-presence, and even temporary social interaction can occur.
The exhibition is not a protest against efficiency, nor does it advocate for "slow living." Rather, it is a rediscovery of the temporal intervals concealed within daily life. It proposes an alternative perspective: waiting is not a void, but a temporal experience that can be deliberately designed, perceived, and shared. When people wait together, strangers may begin to talk, exchange glances, or simply sit side by side. The temporary social space generated by shared waiting is the central concern of this exhibition.
The exhibition features two new media art works alongside participatory situations constructed from waiting itself.
